Harmony in Control: Redesigning Spotify’s Music Discovery UX

PROJECT OVERVIEW

This project reimagines Spotify’s music discovery experience by addressing critical user pain points: opaque AI recommendations, scattered discovery features, and limited control over personal data. Dubbed GenAI: The Magical Music Discovery Genie, our solution combines GPT-4o-powered recommendations with a swipe-first interface inspired by Apple’s Camera UX. The redesign empowers users to explore music freely while maintaining full transparency and control over their data.

   • Intuitive gestures replace tiny buttons (e.g., swipe up to dislike, draw ∞ to loop).

   • Customizable swipe actions via settings.

2. Incognito Mode

   • Explore music without affecting recommendations or data profiles.

3. Signal Layers

   • Adjust weights for 12 discovery factors (e.g., prioritize "mood" over "location").

4. Explainable AI (XAI)

   • "Why This Song?" reveals recommendation logic using Ericsson’s XAI framework.

5. Temperature Control

   • Slider adjusts AI’s creativity vs. predictability in recommendations.
